All meals are proudly made in Invercargill, New Zealand, one of the world’s southernmost cities. The brand is known for its commitment to quality and outdoor-focused innovation.

Popular freeze-dried meal options include:

Roast Lamb and Vegetables – A hearty favourite with real lamb and veg
Berry Smoothie – Light, fruity, and packed with energy
Honey Soy Chicken – Sweet, savoury and satisfying on the trail
Cooked Breakfast – A classic combo of eggs, hash browns and beans
Spaghetti Bolognaise – Comfort food made camp-friendly

Back Country meals have a best-before date of 4 years, but they’re safe to eat beyond that. Flavour and texture may decline slightly after 5 years, but the food remains edible.

Just add hot water directly into the pouch, stir, seal, and wait about 10 minutes. The food rehydrates fully and can be eaten straight from the pouch—no extra dishes required.

Once opened, you should rehydrate the meal within three days, even if it’s resealed using the built-in zip-lock. Always store in a cool, dry place after opening.

Yes. Back Country Cuisine offers a range of vegetarian and vegan-friendly meals. Look for the dietary icons or filter options on our website to find meals that suit your preferences.

Absolutely. The freeze-drying process removes up to 90% of moisture, making the meals incredibly lightweight—ideal for hiking, trekking, or packing light.

While hot water is recommended for best results, meals can be rehydrated with cold water in emergencies. Just allow extra time for full rehydration.
